Since June of 2000, with the cooperation of the Chadrakasem Rajabhat University, Bangkok, Thailand and the Thai-American Association of South Florida, a summer school was born at the temple to teach Thai language, culture, music, dance, customs and manners during the summer school break. The program includes classes in Thai language, Thai culture, music, dance, Thai customs, and manners, Buddhism and meditation. We would like to encourage you to send your children and grandchildren to attend this summer program. It is important to keep and maintain Thai culture for our future generations.
This summer school program teaches children from age 6 and up free of charge. Since the inception of the summer school program, there has been an average of 20 students per summer who have attended the program.
There is also a class starting this year teaching "Muay Thai Kick Boxing" every Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. by Master Thanapol Laosupho, a former professional boxer from Thailand. This class is open to students age 6 and up -- male and female.
Classes, open to the public, are held every Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. teaching meditation and Buddhism. Also, on every special Buddhist holiday, the temple offers a weekend retreat to practice the Buddhist eight precepts. College students attending World Religion classes at FIU, University of Miami, Barry University, Miami Dade College and St. Thomas University have come to the temple to learn first hand about the Buddhist way of life and its practice at the temple on a regular basis. Additionally, children from elementary schools and high schools in Miami-Dade County visit the temple on field trips to learn about Buddhism from the monks. Groups from many organizations such as USDA and churches have brought their members to the temple to learn about Buddhism.
Also, there will be classes on Buddhism and meditation. We would like to encourage you to send your children and grandchildren age 6 and up to attend this summer program free of charge. It is important to keep and maintain Thai culture for our future generations.
Sunday June 8 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. will be the summer school program’s orientation. This orientation will give the opportunity for students and parents to meet with teachers to discuss and ask questions about the program and to prepare the students for classes.
